Sparks fly when Chance meets tall, sexy Xav at a Wilmington bar and they have the hottest one-nighter of their lives. But Chance doesn't do repeats, Xav seems detached, and they go their separate ways without a word. Later, when closeted assistant district attorney C. Evan "Chance" Fairchild meets Dare's Landing's newest deputy sheriff, Xavier "Xav" Constantine, Evan isn't only wary. He's irritated as hell.
Xavier is a former FBI agent turned deputy sheriff who is hot on the trail of a South American child prostitution ring. Evan is fighting to put an end to rampant cocaine trafficking and chafing under the thumb of an election-hungry boss. When someone tries to kill the 11-year-old witness who holds the key to both their investigations, they're forced to work together as they put their lives on the line to protect him. As Chance and Xav collide in the heat of a sweltering North Carolina summer, dodging bullets and chasing bad guys isn't the only action going on.

Review:
After a harrowing undercover operation in human trafficking that doesn’t end well, Xav moves from FBI agent to rural deputy sheriff in a town which is seeing an upswing in missing boys.  As he starts investigating, he uncovers more questions than answers.  And one of the top ones is how to deal with the ADA he had a hot night with when he first came into town.
Evan prides himself on keeping his personal and professional lives completely separate.  That falls apart when he is tasked to work with Xav, the one night stand he can’t stop thinking of.  As they dig deeper into the missing kids and their links to the drug imports in the town, Chance must deal with demons from his past he thought he’d locked down.
As the two men get closer to finding out who their culprit is, their feelings for each other continue to get stronger.  When the human trafficking ring decides to clean up the loose ends, both Quinn, the 11-year-old boy they saved, and Chance end up squarely in the crosshairs.  Xav must work through his memories and fears to save them while Chance faces his demons to save some of the missing boys on his own.
This is an intense and fast paced story with twists that made me clench my jaws and fists while listening.  Jim Pelletier brought this story to life and I enjoyed the layers his vocal talents brought to the characters.  Be prepared for tears, laughter, goosebumps and more as you listen to this one.
NOTE-Trigger warning- this book is about human trafficking and child abuse of young boys.  While most of the abuse is in memories or discussed through investigation, be aware of this when preparing to read or listen.
Rating:

A 5 Coffee and Donuts Rating, in honor of all the men and women in blue who work so hard to keep our kids safe every day.
I COULDN'T AGREE WITH GRACE MORE, THIS STORY IS AMAZING, AND THE TWISTS AND TURNS WILL HAVE YOU GASPING FOR SURE!! BELOW IS THE BUY LINK, GRAB IT BELOW!
